Myofunctional Therapy Has Four Goals
- Correct tongue posture
- Nasal breathing - all day and night
- Lip seal - gently close lips together
- Correct swallowing pattern
At Well Being Dentistry, we offer myofunctional therapy which is a program that corrects the improper function of the tongue and facial muscles. It strengthens the tongue and orofacial muscles by teaching patients how to properly engage the muscles to keep them in their proper positions. The therapy consists of highly effective exercises that improve breathing, bite, and orofacial posture.
Just as physical therapy can train our bodies to function properly after an injury, myofunctional therapy can train the facial tissues of the mouth, neck, and face to function to their optimal potential. The goal of our program is to tailor exercises specifically to your needs. Both adults and children benefit from myofunctional therapy.
Myotherapy may benefit patients who suffer from:
- TMJ pain
- Neck pain
- Thumb sucking
- Nail biting
- Sleep apnea
- Obstructive breathing disorders
